Paddington Reservoir Gardens "Cascade"

Inspired by the original purpose of the reservoir which was the storage of water for the rapidly growing City of Sydney, "Cascade" is the feeling of water running off the surface of the bridge and forming a type of waterfall. This was a very low budget project so simplicity was important. During the day, the afternoon sun slanting through Reservoir gardens formed a pool of brilliant blue on the lower surface. So the viewer standing in this pool and looking up at the "Cascade" gets the feeling of being immersed in water. Artists Ruth McDermott and Ben Baxter lit the installation at night with LEDs which were powered by an adjacent solar panel.
